FUTURECARENC SHARES NCCAREGIVERS UPDATE

NC CareGivers logo

FutureCare NC was awarded approximately $2.5 million by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to establish the NC CareGivers Program to address the shortage of direct care workers (CNAs) in nursing homes.

Since March, the NC CareGivers Program has been reaching out to all the Skilled Nursing Facilities, Community Colleges, and Proprietary Schools to participate in the initiative. As of today, 226 Skilled Nursing Facilities, 43 Community Colleges and 7 Proprietary Schools have registered to participate.

A marketing flyer to recruit Nurse Aide students to participate in the NC CareGivers Program was sent to the Community Colleges and Proprietary Schools in mid-July.  Currently, we have 57 students that have registered to participate in the program. We anticipate more participant registrations over the next few weeks with fall classes beginning.

Educational webinars are being made available for staff at participating SNFs.  Thus far, the training modules have included: The Do’s and Don’ts of Employee Appreciation, a six-module series Fearless in the Face of Crisis and an overview of the NC CareGivers Program.  Upcoming webinars in the fall will include Introducing and Sustaining Organizational Change and Building on Trust.  Facilities can participate in annual employee satisfaction/engagement surveys.  This year, 127 of the 225 facilities participated in the survey process and submitted their responses by August 13th.  Survey results have been shared with participating facilities.
