Legal Guidance for North Carolina Voting Assistance

The Center for Vulnerable Voters’ legal counsel recently reviewed election laws related to voting assistance in several states including North Carolina.

This guide is for residential facilities to reference with our counsel noting recommended best practice. It provides answers to questions such as who is allowed to cast an absentee ballot, can nursing home staff assist their residents with absentee voting, can nursing home staff assist a disabled resident in voting, if nursing home staff is not allowed to assist residents in voting, how should voted absentee ballots be returned, what conduct indicates that illegal activity may be occurring in a nursing home, and what other criminal offenses related to absentee voting should nursing home staff be aware of.
