Mark Gogal Joins NCHCFA as VP of Workforce Development

Mark Gogal is the new Vice President of Workforce Development at North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association (NCHCFA). He began his role on April 1.

As the VP of Workforce Development, Gogal brings more than 25 years of progressive, global, and diverse experience in strategic planning, operations, business, management, and human resources. In his new role, he is responsible for efforts to improve the workforce pool in skilled nursing facilities including growing the pipeline for nursing and other positions, building and strengthening relationships with workforce development and education institutions, and developing policy solutions to achieve those ends.

“Recruiting and retaining a sufficiently sized and quality workforce will be the challenge of our time. With Mark’s network and unique combination of skills, I could think of no one better for this newly created role within the association,” said Adam Sholar, NCHCFA President & CEO.

Gogal is no stranger to NCHCFA as he has been actively involved with the NCHCFA Institute for Long Term Care Leaders for the past seven years and this involvement will continue. He has also presented several leadership presentations at past NCHCFA conferences.

In his new role, he will also build and strengthen relationships by serving as the NCHCFA representative to various groups working on direct care or health care workforce improvement initiatives, develop policy solutions and help to advocate for them along with other NCHCFA officials and stakeholders, and explore grant funding opportunities in conjunction with FutureCare of North Carolina related to workforce improvement or pipeline improvement initiatives, among other duties.

“Across North Carolina’s healthcare landscape, skilled nursing facilities are vital in providing high-quality and personal care for our aging populations,” Gogal said. “I strongly believe in NCHCFA’s mission, which includes among numerous initiatives, supporting members with the recruitment and development of talented healthcare professionals for their facilities. I am honored to be joining the association staff and hope to contribute to NCHCFA’s long-lasting impact.”

Gogal was previously the Chief of Staff and Vice Chancellor of Strategic Initiatives at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He was responsible for the overall management of the Office of the Chancellor. Additionally, as the assistant secretary to the Board of Trustees, he worked closely with the Board planning and coordinating meetings and ensuring compliance with the Board’s bylaws and codes. Other prior roles include Interim Vice Chancellor for Advancement at UNC Pembroke, Director of Human Resources at the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Global Vice President of Human Resources at Sigma Electric Manufacturing Corporation, and Manager of Human Resources at Progress Energy and Interpath Communications.

Gogal has a Master of Business Administration from North Carolina State University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from James Madison University.
