FUTURECARE NC CMP PROJECT TO FUND TECHNOLOGY INSTALLATION TO ENHANCE RESIDENT CARE

Desk with mac computer on it

The CDC and NC DHHS have issued its strongest visitation restrictions to protect community spread of COVID-19. One of the ways facilities can help residents combat feelings of loneliness and isolation is using tablets, laptops, and cellphones. These types of technology include applications that allow a virtual “visit” so family members can both see and hear from their loved ones.

FutureCare NC along with valued community stakeholders is exploring the use of Civil Monetary Penalty (CMP) funds to make technology more available during COVID-19 and beyond. This project would work to bridge any technology gap within long term care facilities in North Carolina.

The goal of this grant is to leverage the Birdsong Tablet which is currently on the market and has been launched successfully in other states for use within long-term care facilities.

The new Birdsong Tablet introduces aging seniors to technology in a confidence-building, easy-to-use way that eliminates their fear and frustration. The vast content selected especially for older adults keeps them engaged, entertained and connected to family, friends, and caregivers with the touch of a button. The Birdsong Tablet keeps them close to you wherever you are. Easy-to-use audio and video calls are just a tap away. It also keeps them connected to the world around them with Music, Games, News, Video Chat, email Communication and more.

The Benefits of the Birdsong Tablet

  • Features an easy-to-use, large icon interface
  • Offers an extensive, regularly refreshed rich and fun content library
