USING THE OPTIONAL STATE ASSESSMENT UNDER PDPM

The Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) starts October 1. Under PDPM, many of the resident assessments that were required for Medicare will no longer need to be completed.  The Association has received questions from our members regarding the use of the Optional State Assessment (OSA).  The OSA is a resident assessment that states can elect to use to support their Medicaid case-mix systems.

There is currently no requirement that nursing facilities complete OSAs starting October 1. If the OSA should become a requirement in the future, providers will be given adequate notice to train and prepare for the transition.
