Ever wonder where Rhode Island got its name since it isn’t an island?

Italian explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano sailed up the Atlantic coast of North America, he noticed an island at the mouth of Narragansett Bay. He thought the island was like the island of Rhodes in Greece and named it that.
