ahcancalED is partnering with the American Association of Post-Acute Care Nursing (AAPACN) to offer the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Certified Professional (QCP) designation and QAPI for Long-Term Care prep courses. These programs  are setting the national standard in certification and education for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ QAPI program. AAPACN develops, administers and reviews a certification program that reflects current standards of competent performance regarding the QAPI program and process.

While the fundamental concept of the CMS QAPI program is to promote quality of care and quality of life for residents in skilled nursing facilities, the goal of QCP certification is to establish that professionals have the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate competence in this area. The prep course supports achievement of the certification credential. Candidates who complete all five self-study prep courses earn 16.21 hours of ANCC continuing education hours (CEs) or 18.5 NAB continuing education credits.

AAPACN has specific criteria and steps that must be followed for achieving the QCP designation. Those requirements are described in AAPACN’s QAPI Candidate Handbook.

Important Registration and Member Fee Information

There is a one-year time limit to complete the prep course from the date of registration, and the same one-year expiration pertains to the registration date to take the QCP exam. The QCP certification lasts for four years at which time individuals must pay a recertification fee and meet other requirements. To purchase the QCP examination, QAPI for Long-Term Care preparatory course, or QCP recertification fee at the member rates, AHCA/NCAL members must use special registration links below to obtain member pricing.

Because the QCP certification program is operated through AAPACN, members should be directed to AAPACN with questions. They can visit AAPACN’s FAQs page,or contact the AAPACN Education Team at (800) 768-1880 or go to this link.
