Credit Balance Reporting Update and Corrections Process
Starting December 1, 2024, providers are no longer required to submit Credit Balance Reports (CMS-838) on a quarterly basis. Providers are still required to report self-identified overpayments, but only when they occur.
Click here for additional information on this change.
After submitting a credit balance report, providers may determine that a correction is needed on the information provided on the detail page accompanying their credit balance report, may determine that a refund of funds collected on a credit balance should be refunded, or would like to submit additional information to correct claim history after a credit balance demand letter has been issued.
