LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE DISCUSSES POTENTIAL CHANGES TO CERTIFICATE OF NEED (CON) LAW

Yesterday, the North Carolina General Assembly’s Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Health and Human Services continued the debate over the state’s Certificate of Need law. Some members of the NC Senate advocating for changes did not see their proposal to change CON law enacted last year or earlier this year, but the issue isn’t going away. The Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Health and Human Services spent several hours hours Tuesday hearing presentations from healthcare providers and trade organizations on both sides of the debate, including Duke Home Care and Hospice, Vidant Health, and the N.C. Orthopedic Association. The committee’s hearing ended before committee members could question the speakers or discuss their comments, so it’s unclear what, if anything, the committee might recommend regarding any changes to the CON law. The latest version of the proposed bill that would make changes to the state’s CON law can be found here, and we will provide more information about this topic and how you can help preserve the state’s CON law at our upcoming Convention.  Click here to register today!
