Fall Symposium is Less Than a Month Away: Check Out These Educational Sessions
The NCHCFA Fall Symposium on September 9 – 11 at Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms, SC is less than a month away. The important education classes continue the last day of the NCHCFA Fall Symposium on Wednesday with Active Shooter Response and Emergency Preparedness and Life Safety discussions.
Chad Ayers, Founder of Proactive Response Group, kicks off the day with the Active Shooter Response Discussion. This session will educate participants in current trends of active shooter incidents, recognizing early warning signs of violence, appropriate actions to increase chances of survival in an active shooter event, and introduction to basic medical equipment to save the lives of victims.
Chad served as a Sheriff’s Deputy for Greenville County in South Carolina for 12 years. During his time as a Deputy in Greenville County, Chad worked undercover in numerous federal and state investigations, performing in high-pressure environments. Chad was a member of the SWAT team, where he served as an assistant team leader. He is experienced in hostage negotiations and rescue as well as active shooter events.
In the next session, Kurtis Grant, CMS Safety Engineer with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, leads the Emergency Preparedness and Life Safety Discussion. The session is intended to help facility staff understand the selection and survey process for Life Safety Surveys and how to identify deficiencies in your facility.
Kurtis is the CMS Safety Engineer for Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. He has been in this position since 2013. Prior to joining CMS, he was with an architectural firm specializing in medical buildings for 18 years serving as an Architect and the Senior Medical Space Planner. He is a Registered Architect and is a Class 1 NFPA certified Fire Inspector.
