UPDATE Weekly #1691 – August 29, 2012

This Week’s Table of Contents:

PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE

There has been no time in recent memory that state and national elections have been more important.  The best way to make sure our voices are heard is by supporting NCHCFA’s Political Action Committee (PAC).   Political Action Committees are the most effective way to join forces with one message in support of our state’s elected officials. Political campaigns have become increasingly expensive and candidates must rely on contributions from individuals and PACs. Decisions made by members of the General Assembly have tremendous impact on the daily operations of a skilled nursing facility.  They make critical decisions about the challenges facing long term care providers every day such as Medicaid funding, health planning and certificate of need, health care workforce issues,  medical malpractice reforms, among others.  It is essential that our PAC support the individuals who share our views.

We need help from everyone – at all levels – so that we can be an effective public policy voice for ensuring North Carolina has a comprehensive, adequately funded long term health care system.  Let’s send a powerful message of unity on behalf of our state’s skilled nursing community.   Make a contribution today.  Any amount will be greatly appreciated.   You can visit our Web site at http://www.nursinghomesnc.com  and click on “Donate to NCHCFA/PAC” (top right corner) to make an on-line contribution or click on the following link:  http://nursinghnc.webfactional.com/donate-to-nchcfapac

NCHCFA/PAC FIRST ANNUAL PINEHURST AUTUMN CLASSIC

Make plans today to join your friends and colleagues in beautiful Pinehurst, North Carolina, on September 12th and 13th for the NCHCFA’s first annual “Pinehurst Autumn Classic” being held at the world famous Pine Needles Lodge and Resort. The event will begin on Wednesday evening with a reception, dinner and program, “An Analysis:  56 Days to Election 2012”.  Built in 1928, the Donald Ross course at Pine Needles has been host to three US Women’s Open tournaments, 1996, 2001 and again in 2007.

The Pinehurst Autumn Classic is being sponsored by the NC Health Care Facilities Association to benefit our political action committee (PAC).  Our PAC is woefully underfunded at a time when national and state elections have never been more important and the costs of running for elective office have never been higher.  To see a schedule of events and registration details, please click here.

You do not have to play golf or tennis to participate!  We hope you will join us in Pinehurst in September.

NEED TO GO

Will Turner, 94, has never had an emergency room experience quite like this.  At Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, he found thick mattresses to prevent bedsores, skid-proof floors, and curtains designed to produce less noise. It’s only a few examples of the features designed specifically for senior citizens.

DID YOU KNOW?

Richard Synergy flew a kite to an altitude of approximately 14,509 feet above the point of take-off in Ontario, Canada. At its maximum altitude the kite had 4.5 miles of woven kevlar line connecting it to a winch on the ground.
