DELAY IN MEDICAID MANAGED CARE IMPLEMENTATION

The transition to Medicaid managed care in North Carolina has been planned for several years.  However, it was announced yesterday that due to the lack of a state budget, the implementation of Medicaid managed care would be delayed.  Initially, Medicaid managed care would have been implemented in two regions of the state starting November 1, 2019 with the other four regions going live on February 1, 2020.  With the announced delay, all six regions are planned to transition to Medicaid managed care on February 1, 2020.

Open enrollment has been underway in 27 counties, and it will be extended until December 13, 2019. In the rest of North Carolina’s counties, open enrollment will still begin in mid-October as planned.

NCHCFA would like to remind its member facilities that for the first several years under Medicaid managed care, dual eligible residents are excluded from Medicaid managed care so are Medicaid only residents with stays longer than 90 days.
