SNF PPS RATE UPDATES EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 2020

Hour glass and calendar concept for time slipping away for important appointment date, schedule and deadline

Starting October 1, 2020, the SNF PPS rates will be updates to reflect the latest payment rule. These updates include a 2.2% market basket increase, wage index changes and re-classification of three Core-based Statistical Areas (CBSAs) from rural to Urban.

The most significant changes in the Medicare calculation are:

  • The most significant wage index decreases
    • Fayetteville CBSA – 5.00%
    • New Bern CBSA – 2.17%
    • Greenville CBSA – 1.82%
  • CBSA reclassification from rural to urban
    • Harnett County into the Fayetteville CBSA (will not realize the same 5% wage decrease as facilities traditionally in the Fayetteville CBSA)
    • Anson County into the Charlotte-Concord-Gastonia CBSA
    • Granville County into the Durham-Chapel Hill CBSA

Each year, the American Health Care Association prepares an Excel spreadsheet that will calculate the Medicare rates for each nursing facility provider.  As of today, this spreadsheet is not ready for release. As soon as it becomes available, it will be posted by NCHCFA.
