Staffing Mandate Letter to CMS

U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis (NC) joined a bipartisan group of 27 other U.S. Senators in urging CMS not to move forward with its proposed minimum staffing rule for nursing facilities.

The group of senators agreed with CMS on the “importance of ensuring beneficiaries of federal health care programs have access to safe and high-quality nursing care” but pointed out that “a one-size-fits-all staffing mandate significantly undermines access to care for patients, particularly in rural communities.”

The senators said that CMS should instead “work with Congress and stakeholders on policy alternatives that address the severe workforce challenges” we are facing.
