Rep. Murphy Led Group Urging CMS to Withdraw its Proposed Minimum Staffing Rule

Rep. Greg Murphy, MD (NC-3) led an effort by a group of healthcare professionals serving in Congress to urge CMS to withdraw its proposed minimum staffing rule.

The lawmakers, led by Rep. Murphy, told CMS they are “adamantly opposed” to the proposed rule. They pointed out that while they agreed with “the need to ensure patients receive high quality health care services, this rule, as currently proposed, would exacerbate existing widespread workforce shortages, profoundly and negatively affect the finances of providers, increase burdensome reporting requirements, and drive patients toward higher-cost, more distant facilities.”
