Direct Care Works Bonus Overpayments and Payments for Former Employees

If a facility was overpaid for the number of eligible direct care workers, NC Medicaid will recoup overpayments made for the one-time bonus; all recouped funds will be returned to the State Fiscal Recovery Fund. In instances where providers identified bonus overpayments, please contact the Medicaid.DCW.Bonus.Help.Center@dhhs.nc.gov with the following information:  

• NPI  
• Case Number  
• Number of DCWs received payment for  
• Correct Number of DCWs  
• Total Amount Paid  
• Total Amount to be Recouped  

Selection of preference for repayment:  

NC Medicaid will offset the overpaid dollars from the weekly claims checkwrites OR Providers have up to 30 days to mail in a repayment to:

If you had an employee quit between now and when you submitted the employee bonus numbers, you should try to get the bonus to the former employee.  If you cannot locate the former employee, their bonus funds will need to go through the escheat process.
