AHCA PRODUCT OF THE WEEK – HIGH INTENSITY REHABILITATION IN MEDICALLY COMPLEX POPULATIONS

AHCA/NCAL ED logo

In collaboration with the University of Colorado, AHCA/NCAL launched an online educational program for physical therapy and occupational therapy rehabilitation professionals (PT, PTA, OT, OTA) in 2020 titled High Intensity Physical Rehabilitation in Medically Complex Populations.  Sadly, this course was launched the week before the pandemic, and it got lost in the challenges of the last year.

With pandemic challenges easing for SNFs, we want to draw attention again to this important curriculum. The course will be on sale with the course fee reduced to $300 (a savings of $195 off the regular price) through April 30.

We believe this course is important for SNFs as hospital referrals return to more normal levels and competition for SNF patients increases. High intensity rehab nets positive performance results.  Researchers from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus released study findings in Fall 2020 showing that the average SNF length of stay patients decreases by 3.5 days when physical therapists use a high-intensity rehabilitative training program for their patients.  In addition, walking speed from evaluation to discharge increased by 0.13/m/s which exceeds clinically meaningful changes in walking speed.

Documentation will be provided by AHCA/NCAL to rehab professionals who successfully complete the course, so that they can apply to their respective state licensing boards for continuing education credits. Click HERE to view the flyer. Click HERE to register through AHCA’s website.
