Resident ID Changes and Delay in Final Q1 Resident Roster Posting

CMS logo

Effective with the implementation of the CMS iQIES system for MDS transmission and validation on April 17th, CMS changed the Resident ID number associated with each individual to a new Patient ID number. This change severs the connection between historic MDS assessments and newly transmitted MDS assessments for the same resident, which creates issues for the existing MDS sequencing and delinquent record determination logic.

Myers and Stauffer is currently working on a solution to align historical MDS assessment data with the new CMS Patient ID numbers to ensure appropriate assessment connection and relation over time. Myers and Stauffer was able to release a preliminary resident roster for the 1/1 – 3/31 MDS reporting period, but the final resident roster that was scheduled to be released on June 20th will continue to be delayed until the issues are resolved.

Additionally, providers should review their internal software systems and reporting to ensure this change from Resident ID to Patient ID has not impacted any current processes or procedures.
