The Audiology Project is Recruiting NC SNFs Participation for CMP Training Grant

The Audiology Project (TAP) is recruiting North Carolina skilled nursing facilities to join a three-year CMP training grant for the Hearing and Communication Training Program for Improved Quality of Life in Skilled Nursing Homes. The deadline is January 25.

TAP is excited to bring resources and training to NC facilities to improve the detection and assessment of hearing loss and communication strategies. This includes resources for managing and troubleshooting hearing aids and equipment for residents to hear better; be able to watch and understand TV; and be able to communicate with staff, families, and each other. The training will help improve the residents’ quality of life, satisfaction with care, and staff satisfaction and retention.

Facilities are invited to join the grant for both in-person and virtual training for administration, medical/rehab personnel, staff, residents, and families. Continuing education is free for staff and administration participants in the project and will allow the staff to feel engaged with the process, improving their satisfaction. New hires and staff who work second and third shifts will also be able to learn online and access materials that will help them better serve the communication needs of residents.

Grant trainers will come to each facility. The trainers hired will be college students in communication services, nursing, and education. These trainers will help the facility and staff learn valuable means of communication, and they will learn about facilities important work in patient care and how each facility impacts residents’ quality of life and quality of care.

To participate in the program, fill out the facility agreement or corporate agreement form. Return the grant participation agreement by January 25 to kdowd01@att.net
