There is still time to register for tomorrow’s webinar:  Infection Control Surveys: Directed Plans of Correction & Other Enforcement Issues with speaker Ken Burgess, Partner, Poyner Spruill, LLP.

The N.C. Division of Health Service Regulation continues to perform infection control surveys at North Carolina skilled nursing facilities, pursuant to an infection control survey mandate from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).  On January 4, 2021, CMS issued a revised QSO-20-31-ALL which outlines an infection control survey priority and a revised enforcement mandate for facilities that incur infection control deficiencies.  One enforcement remedy that CMS is now mandating for all infection control citations at a scope and severity level of “D” or higher is a Directed Plan of Correction (DPOC).  The complexity of the DPOC a facility must submit to Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR) depends upon the facility’s COVID infection history and recent infection control survey history.

In this webinar, Ken will walk participants through pertinent portions of revised QSO-20-31-ALL, explain the DPOC remedy, including when CMS mandates its use, the required DPOC elements for infection control citations at varying scope/severity levels, and some practical tips on developing and submitting a DPOC, along with the Root Cause Analysis CMS is requiring as part of all DPOCs.
