Reimbursement Related Updates: Provider Assessment and Medicare Rates

Medicaid

Provider Assessment: Some providers have noticed, when paying the July provider assessment (due in August), that the rate at which you are paying the provider assessment is not the same assessment rate included in your Medicaid rate. The provider assessment should have increased on July 1. According to Medicaid, they are currently waiting for the budget to be approved. Once there is an approved budget, they will update the rates to reflect the new provider assessment rates and post a new fee schedule. These changes will be implemented retroactively back to the appropriate date.

Medicare Rates: The Medicare final rate has been released. The rule provides a net 4% rate increase to the base Medicare rate effective October 1, 2023. These rates also reflect changes in the wage index figures. Due to changes in the wage index for each county, some providers will see a rate increase either more or less than the base rate 4% net increase. NCHCFA has prepared an excel file that estimates the total rate impact after applying the 4% increase and wage index change. To access this file, click here
