AHCA Product of the Week: PHI Coaching Supervision®

PHI developed a signature training approach for long-term care supervisors called PHI Coaching Supervision®. This course teaches the essentials of PHI Coaching Supervision®, including the difference between task-centered and relationship-centered thinking; traditional supervision versus coaching supervision; coaching skills related to active listening, self-awareness, and self-management; paraphrasing; delivering feedback, and other forms of verbal and non-verbal communication.   

The training helps managers and supervisors engage employees in solving work-related problems while empowering them to participate in decisions that impact their daily work. When implemented fully, PHI Coaching Supervision® has been shown to result in increased worker satisfaction and retention as well as improved quality of care.   

Key learning objectives:   

  • Understand a relational approach to supervision that helps grow the critical thinking and problem-solving skills of employees 
  • Differentiate task-centered supervision from relationship-centered supervision, as well as traditional supervision from coaching supervision 
  • Practice key skills related to active listening, self-awareness, self-management, paraphrasing, delivering feedback, and other forms of vernal and non-verbal communication.     

The target audience is supervisory staff, including nurse supervisors, department heads, home care managers, and service delivery coordinators.   

4.50 NAB approved CEs and 4.50 contact hours for nurses through the Iowa Board of Nursing will be awarded upon successful completion.
