Increase in Medicaid Personal Needs Allowance Effective January 1, 2024
As previously announced, the Personal Needs Allowance for Medicaid nursing facility residents has been increased from $30 to $70. Although not yet approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Medicaid has implemented this increase as of January 1, 2024.
This change will impact the monthly liability paid by your Medicaid residents. Any decrease in the resident monthly liability paid to the facility will be offset by an increase in the Medicaid payments to the facility. The total payments received by the facility will not change because of the increase in the Personal Needs Allowance.
All County DSS offices were notified of this change in early December 2023. Click here to read the change notice. This change is included on page 3 in Section G2.
If you have any questions regarding the implementation of this change, please contact the appropriate County DSS office.
