Have You Heard All the Talk About Peacocks Lately?
Fun Facts: Only the males are actually “peacocks.” The collective term for these birds is “peafowl.” The males are “peacocks” and the females are “peahens.” The babies are called “peachicks.” A family of peafowl is called a “bevy.” A peacock’s tail feathers can reach up to six feet long and comprise about 60 percent of its body length. Despite these odd proportions, the birds can fly short distances.
Why Are Peacocks in the News?
Each NCAA Tournament has its darling that hits the national radar and becomes everyone’s favorite underdog. This year that happens to be the St. Peter’s Peacocks, led by head coach Shaheen Holloway. The small school from Jersey City, NJ took down second-seeded Kentucky in one of the most shocking upsets in March Madness history. The Peacocks then continued their Cinderella run, beating Murray State to advance to the Sweet 16.
