Spotlight on NCHCFA Fall Symposium Educational Sessions

We will be featuring educational sessions from the NCHCFA Annual Fall Symposium on August 31 – September 2 at the Wilmington Convention Center in Wilmington, NC, leading up to the event.

Wound care plays a critical role in improving resident outcomes, and recognizing when a wound has stalled can make all the difference. Attend But the Wound Isn’t Getting Worse with Sarah Gafford, Director of Clinical Integration at NIVA Health, on Wednesday, September 2 from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.

This session will help attendees distinguish between stable and stalled wounds, identify early signs of delayed healing, and avoid documentation pitfalls that can impact regulatory outcomes. Participants will also explore when to escalate care, adjust treatment plans, and implement practical strategies that support measurable healing outcomes and improved resident care.

Employment laws and workplace policies are constantly evolving. Attend Hiring, Drug Testing, and Emerging THC Issues in Long-Term Care: Practical Guidance for North Carolina Providers with Jim Wrenn, Business Attorney at Smith Anderson Law, on Wednesday, September 2 from 9:45 – 10:45 a.m.

This session will provide practical guidance on compliant hiring practices, employee drug-testing policies, background checks, and emerging issues surrounding THC and CBD products. Attendees will gain strategies for balancing workforce needs, resident rights, and facility safety while navigating today’s changing legal and regulatory landscape.
