May 4-10, 2025 is both the National and North Carolina’s Hurricane Preparedness Week
With North Carolina’s susceptibility to tropical systems, preparation EACH and EVERY year is crucial. This week serves as a reminder to make sure that your nursing home staff are up-to-date on your emergency response plan.
It only takes ONE storm to make an impact on our lives. Preparedness week is a way to reinforce what one should do to prepare for each hurricane season. Everyone should remember that every tropical system is dangerous and that impacts occur well away from the coast and well away from the center of the storm and outside of “the cone!”
Please use the following web sites during this week’s Hurricane Preparedness Week and throughout hurricane season!
- https://www.weather.gov/rah/hurricaneprep NWS Raleigh’s one-stop shop for Hurricane Preparedness info and material, including graphics in Spanish and for the deaf and hard of hearing community.
- https://www.noaa.gov/hurricane-prep NWS’ mobile-friendly National Hurricane Preparedness web page. Please view the social media plan to find content corresponding to each day’s theme.
