Division of Health Service Regulation Minimum Data Set Training

This spring the Nursing Home Licensure and Certification Section will offer seven 90-minute training sessions for Minimum Data Set (MDS) coding. The purpose of this training is to offer providers guidance about how to use the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) correctly and effectively to help provide quality care.  

The MDS training will be offered in March and April via Teams. There is no charge to the providers, and all disciplines participating in completing any section of the MDS are encouraged to attend. The sessions have been set up for the participant to attend any session on the dates listed.  

Registration is not necessary to link into Teams. The link for Teams is the same for every session, and the 2024-2025 MDS Training with updates handout is posted on the NC DHSR training website below the dates and Teams link. All sessions are from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. on the following dates:  

  • Thursday, March 13, Session #1: Review assessment scheduling and coding in Section A, MDS schedule Related Regulations, Interview Strategies, and use of dashes. 
  • Thursday, March 20, Session #2: Review of Sections A, B, F, K, and Related Regulations. 
  • Thursday, March 27, Session #3: Review of Sections C, D, E, Q, Discharge Planning, and Related Regulations. 
  • Thursday, April 3, Session #4: Review of Sections GG, H, I, J, and Related Regulations. 
  • Thursday, April 10, Session #5: Review of Sections L, M, N, O, P, and Related Regulations. 
  • Thursday, April 17, Session #6: Review of Sections V, CAAs, Care Plans, and Related Regulations. 
  • Thursday April 24, Session #7: Review of Sections X, Z, Transmissions, Related Regulations, and Helpful Resources.
