MAHEC Offers MOUD in Geriatric Care and Skilled Nursing Webinar Series

The Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) is offering a free three-part series that will explore the essential information for treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) while working with geriatric patients and skilled nursing facility residents. 

The dates, times, and topics for the three webinars are:   

  • August 28, 12:00 –1:00 p.m., The Americans with Disabilities Act’s Protections for Individuals with Opioid Use Disorder 
  • September 23, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., Medicinal Basics for Treating Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) in Geriatric Care 
  • October 8, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., Operational Basics for Treating Opioid Use Disorder (OUD) in Geriatric Care 

The first session will review the legal landscape of MOUD for geriatric patients and the federal protections for patients with OUD in skilled nursing facilities. In session two, providers experienced in OUD treatment will discuss continuing and initiating medications to care for individuals with OUD in skilled nursing facilities. Session three will provide an overview of the program logistics of initiating and providing medications for treating OUD in skilled nursing facilities, including working with opioid treatment programs.
