Changes & Updates to MDS 3.0
Register today for our upcoming two-part webinar series titled Changes & Updates to MDS 3.0.  Our presenter will be Janet Brooks, RN, RAC-CT, RAI Education Coordinator with the NC Division of Health Service Regulation.  Janet will be accompanied by the State Agency Director, Cindy Deporter.

Session 1 – 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Beginning October 1, 2020, North Carolina will be requiring PDPM HIPPS code calculations along with RUG codes for all OBRA assessments. We will review the information which had previously only been required for PPS assessments and will now be included with OBRA Admission, Annual, Quarterly, Significant Change and Significant Correction assessments. We will review the requirements in Sections GG, I and J.

Objectives include: Review changes and updates made to the MDS 3.0, Version 1.17.2 Effective 10/01/2020 including Sections GG, I and J.

Session 2 – 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Accuracy of the MDS assessment is so important. It helps to develop the care plan, provides information for Quality Measures, it’s the basis for PPS and Medicaid reimbursement and is also used as a foundation for the survey and certification process.

We will review identified areas of concern including dash (-) use, isolation coding, and transmissions and validation reports. We will also discuss the MDS waiver and provide available resource information.

Objectives include: Recognize the impact of coding inaccuracies, Review the use of dashes (-), Review isolation coding in our COVID world, Reinforce the need to understand which assessments are not transmitted, The importance of validation report review and to Discuss the MDS waiver.
