Advance Directives Brochures
Guides to making educated health care decisions

NCHCFA offers two versions of brochures dealing with advance directives. The first, developed by NCHCFA, gives detailed definitions of advance directives, including living wills, health care powers of attorney, and advance instruction for mental health treatment. It also provides a guide to obtaining the aforementioned documents.

The second brochure, developed by the NC Division of Medical Assistance (NCDMA), offers similar information. Offering your residents and their families both copies is the best way to make sure they fully understand the purpose and impact of advance directives.

NCHCFA Informational Brochures
Helpful advice for residents and their families

Three pamphlets are available for facilities to share with residents and their families on paying for long term care, the process of planning for long term care, and the services offered in long term care. The payment brochure offers explanations of Medicare, Medicaid (parts A and B), Veterans Administration, long term care insurance, and private pay. Another brochure talks about the long term care continuum, placement and admission. Finally, the third brochure explains the services offered such as nursing care, dietary, social services, therapy and activities.

Regulatory Focus Bulletin
A Providers Guide to Regulatory Information

Regulatory Focus Bulletin (RFB) was instituted by NCHCFA to help answer questions from long term care providers. This guide is a compilation of regulatory questions submitted by long term care providers and answered by a panel of individuals. The panel is made up of representatives from the Division of Facility Services, NCHCFA, and long term care providers. Purchase the initial notebook and receive updates monthly.

The Long Term Care Survey

This publication contains the latest State Operations Manual (SOM) revisions that will help you preapre for the implementation of the new survey protocols that became effective July 1, 1999.
