  • The American Health Care Association presents national quality awards annually. In 1998 North Carolina nursing homes received 25% of all the awards presented.

  • The North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association has the only statewide peer review quality improvement program in the nation.

  • Eighty-two percent (82%) of North Carolina's nursing home residents receive some assistance from Medicaid. (NC Division of Aging)

  • By 2025 there will be in excess of two million people ages 65 and older in North Carolina. They will make up 21.4% of the total population-slightly larger than the percentage of children 18 and under. (NC Division of Aging)

  • North Carolina was the first state to license nurses, in 1903.
