About NCHCFA

WHO WE ARE…

The North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association (NCHCFA) was organized in 1956, and represents approximately 90% of the licensed nursing homes in North Carolina. Through government relations, continuing education, trade shows, community service projects, quality assurance, publications, and research, the NCHCFA focuses attention on the evolution of the long term health care profession and keeps its member facilities updated on the latest developments.

The NCHCFA goes beyond the bureaucratic scope of many non-profit organizations. With a "help-from within" attitude, it is responsible for shaping and developing long term care policy. Through its Peer Review program, Annual Buyer's Guide and Directory, awards programs, and research projects, the Association contributes to the continuing excellence of the nursing facilities' care in North Carolina.

The NCHCFA is committed to providing quality health care to the more than 40,000 patients served by its member facilities, while pioneering the growth, development, and improvement of long term nursing care in North Carolina.

GOVERNANCE

The North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association is a non-profit trade association governed by a sixteen member Board of Directors. Officers and members of the Board are elected annually and represent the various geographic regions of our state as well as the various ownership categories. The Board of Directors is responsible for establishing and monitoring Association policy.

GOVERNMENT RELATIONS PROGRAM

The Association is widely recognized for its effective government relations program. The experience and expertise of the Association staff allows the positions of long term care to be furthered at all levels of government. Legislation at the North Carolina General Assembly and the United States Congress are closely monitored and an effective relationship exists with the various regulatory agencies at both the state and federal levels. Many Association members and staff serve on the various boards, commissions, and task forces dealing with long term care.

PEER REVIEW

Through this program, administered by the Association, NCHCFA conducts a systematic, on-site quality review of its member nursing homes. Peer Review offers its members professional assistance through consultation to enhance quality of care, while serving as a unique learning experience. The review process fosters a sharing of ideas and experience.

RESEARCH PROJECTS

Through it extensive research program, the Association collects, assembles, and analyzes data to shape and impact the future of long term care. This effort makes the Association better equipped to respond to and formulate public policy in long term care.

CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAMS

A variety of informative and timely seminars provide nursing facility personnel with key opportunities for career growth and expanding skills in long term care. The Association offers more than 100 hours of continuing education hours annually.

ANNUAL CONVENTION AND TRADE SHOW

These two events held concurrently provide an opportunity for long term care professionals to meet, attend seminars, conduct Association business, and attend one of the largest health care trade shows in the nation.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

With a focus on community education and participation, the Association coordinates National Nursing Home Week. In this same spirit of community involvement, individual nursing homes distribute facility newsletters and community volunteers spend many hours at local nursing homes.

COMMUNICATIONS

With constant changes occurring in long term care, the Association provides its members with a weekly UPDATE, highlighting the most recent legislative, regulatory, and industry news. To supplement its weekly newsletter, the Association distributes a variety of more in-depth publications such as regulatory bulletins, LTC Focus, and periodic issue papers.

COMMITTEES

NCHCFA committees monitor developments in long term care and recommend action or positions with short and long range effects for the Association's membership. Committees with on-going responsibilities include the Council on Provider Relations, Consumer Relations, Education and Programs, and Payment for Services. Committees focused on internal Association business are Budget and Finance, Constitution and Bylaws, Research Data and Planning, and Standards and Ethics.

The Association is a member of the American Health Care Association, and works with other professional organizations, associations, and consumer groups. This ongoing relationship strengthens the Association in effectiveness and enhances long term care's role in the health care community.
